The Budget Traveler’s Guide to the T‑usual Monthly Pass in Barcelona

If you’re planning to stay in Barcelona for a few weeks or a full month, the T‑usual is one of the most affordable ways to get around. It gives you unlimited travel for 30 consecutive days across the city’s entire integrated public transport network, including the metro stations at Barcelona Airport. For frequent riders, it’s easily the best value pass available.

What the T‑usual Is

The T‑usual is a personal monthly pass that activates the first time you use it. From that moment, it’s valid for 30 days on the metro, buses, trams, FGC trains, and Rodalies commuter trains within the zones you choose. It’s designed for people who ride daily, but visitors staying long‑term can benefit just as much.

Where You Can Buy It

You can buy the T‑usual right when you land. Both airport metro stations—Aeroport T1 and T2—have ticket machines that sell it. The machines accept cash or card, and you can load the pass onto a T‑mobilitat card or even your NFC‑enabled phone. If you prefer, you can also buy it at any metro station in the city or through the TMB app.

There’s no need to purchase it ahead of time unless you want everything ready before your trip.

Cost

The price depends on how many zones you need. Most visitors only need 1 zone, which covers all of Barcelona city. The 1‑zone T‑usual costs €22.80. Higher‑zone versions cost more, but they’re only necessary if you’re commuting far outside the city center.

What Areas It Covers

The T‑usual works across the ATM integrated fare system, meaning you can switch between metro, bus, tram, and trains without buying separate tickets. Even better, it includes the airport metro line (L9 Sud), so you can ride from the airport without paying the special airport fare.

Pros

The biggest advantage is unlimited travel. If you’re using public transport every day, the savings add up quickly. It’s also incredibly convenient—one pass works everywhere, and you don’t have to think about individual tickets. Being able to buy it at the airport makes arrival stress‑free.

Cons

The pass is non‑transferable, so only you can use it, and you’ll need to carry ID in case inspectors ask. It’s also not ideal for short trips. If you’re only in Barcelona for a few days, a T‑casual or Hola Barcelona card might make more sense.

Is It Worth It?

For anyone staying a month—or even two to three weeks with heavy daily travel—the T‑usual is a smart, budget‑friendly choice. It keeps transportation simple, predictable, and cheap, letting you focus on enjoying the city instead of counting tickets.
